How to join the BuyICT Digital Marketplace Panel
For digital work with the Australian Government, BuyICT is where most of the action is. Agencies use it to post opportunities to suppliers on the Digital Transformation Agency's panels and arrangements, and many of those suppliers are small and medium-sized enterprises.
What is on BuyICT
BuyICT hosts several of the DTA's whole-of-government arrangements, including:
- Digital Marketplace Panel: digital specialists, digital outcomes and training. The main route for small digital firms.
- Cloud Marketplace: cloud services and cloud consulting.
- Arrangements for hardware, software licensing, telecommunications and data centres.
How to join the Digital Marketplace Panel
- Create a seller profile on BuyICT, with your ABN, business details and insurance.
- Apply to join the panel in the categories you offer, such as software engineering, user research, cyber security or data. Check BuyICT for when the panel is accepting new sellers.
- Provide evidence requested for each category, such as case studies, rates and declarations.
- Wait for assessment. Once approved, you can see and respond to opportunities in your categories.
How agencies award work
Agencies post opportunities, describing the role or outcome, the criteria and the closing date, to sellers in the relevant category. Sellers respond, often with a short written response and named people, and agencies shortlist, interview or ask for more detail, then award.
Tips:
- Respond only where you fit closely. Agencies see many responses.
- Keep your profile current, with strong case studies.
- Price clearly against the maximum rates you agreed when joining.
- Show security maturity, such as your Essential Eight level, for work touching government systems.
Common questions
Can a foreign company join BuyICT?
Foreign sellers have been able to register, but expect to need an Australian Business Number and to meet requirements such as insurance and, for some work, local presence and security clearances.
Is the Digital Marketplace Panel only for federal agencies?
It is primarily used by Australian Government (Commonwealth) agencies. States and territories run their own panels and platforms.
