Questions and answers

What people ask about StackBid

The short version: it's free, it's for small tech firms, and it's live in Canada, the UK and Europe now. For the longer version, see how it works.

The basics

What is StackBid?

StackBid lists public IT and software tenders, explains each one in plain words, and checks whether a small tech firm can bid. It is for dev shops, web studios, managed service providers and IT consultancies of about 2 to 50 people.

Is it free?

Yes. Finding tenders, reading them and getting weekly alerts are free, and that is meant to stay true for good, not only during early access. StackBid plans to earn money from optional services around bidding, such as bid help and introductions to larger firms looking for partners. There is no paid placement in your matches.

Which countries does it cover?

Canada, the UK and the countries of the European Union now, with a page per country at /countries that says who can bid from abroad. Australia, New Zealand and the US come next. You can sign up free from anywhere, and we use where members are to decide where to open first.

How is StackBid related to CrewBid?

CrewBid is its sister product, for trades and service contracts. CrewBid already reads Canadian buyer portals every hour, so StackBid takes the technology tenders from it rather than reading the same portals twice.

Tenders and "Can we bid this?"

Where do the tenders come from?

Public buyer portals across Canada, including CanadaBuys and the tender pages of cities, health authorities, school districts and universities. StackBid checks for new and changed notices every hour and keeps only technology work.

What does "Can we bid this?" check?

It finds the requirements in a notice that could stop a small firm, such as security clearances, SOC 2 or ISO 27001, insurance limits, Canadian data hosting, bilingual delivery and pre-qualified supplier lists. Then it compares each one with your firm profile. Each answer quotes the notice's own words, so you can check it.

Can I rely on it instead of reading the tender?

No. It's a quick first read to help you decide whether a tender is worth your time. The official documents are what count, and requirements can sit in attachments StackBid hasn't read. Always read the notice before you bid.

What does "Pre-qualified suppliers only" mean?

Some tenders are open only to firms already on a supplier list, such as TBIPS or ProServices in Canada. If you are not on the list, you cannot bid on that tender. StackBid tells you which list it is, so you can watch for the next time it opens.

What does "Small-firm friendly" mean?

The tender is open to anyone, is of modest value, and asks for no security clearance or audited certification.

Your account and emails

How do I sign in?

With an emailed link. There's no password. Confirm your sign-up and you're signed in, and after that you can ask for a new link any time from the sign-in page.

What emails will I get?

Only the ones you turn on. The weekly alert comes on Monday mornings with new tenders that match your work, your regions and the buyers you follow. If you mark a tender as one you are bidding on, you also get deadline reminders for it. Every email has a one-click way out.

Can I follow one buyer?

Yes. Follow a buyer from its page, and everything it posts comes in your weekly email, even work outside the kinds you picked.

What do you do with my data?

We use it to match tenders and check what you can bid on. We do not sell it. The privacy notice says what we keep, and how to see or delete it.
