Questions

How do I get on G-Cloud, and how long does it take?

G-Cloud is the UK public sector's framework for cloud hosting, cloud software and cloud support, run by Crown Commercial Service. Many of its suppliers are small firms.

What the application involves

  1. Watch for the opening. CCS announces each new version in advance. Check its website for the current timetable rather than relying on past dates.
  2. Register on the platform CCS uses for the application.
  3. Complete the supplier declaration, covering exclusion grounds, finances and insurance.
  4. Write each service listing: a service description, a pricing document, your terms, and answers to set questions on features, security and data location.
  5. Submit before the deadline. Late applications are not accepted.

Suppliers already on G-Cloud must reapply for each new version to stay on.

How long it really takes

The writing itself is days to a few weeks, depending on how many services you list. The wait is the long part: up to a year or two for the next version to open, then the evaluation period before it goes live.

Once you're on

There's no bid to write for each contract. Buyers search the catalogue, shortlist and award directly, so your listing is your bid. Use the words buyers search for, answer every question fully so filters don't drop you, and tell your public sector contacts you're listed. Most G-Cloud suppliers also hold Cyber Essentials.
